To a well stirred solution of carvacrol (1.00 g, 1.02 mL, 6.66 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in chloroform (60.0 mL), sulfuryl dichloride (1.35 g, 807 μL, 9.99 mmol, 1.50 equiv) was added at 0 °C. The reaction mixture was slowly warmed to 21 °C and stirred at 21 °C for 2 hours (monitored by GC-MS). The reaction mixture was quenched with ice and extracted with dichloromethane. The combined organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and filtered.
