To a suspension of 1-(2,6-dihydroxyphenyl)ethanone (1.00 g, 6.57 mmol, 1.00 equiv) and dichloromethane (10.00 mL), N,N-diethylethanamine (3.33 g, 4.58 mL, 32.9 mmol, 5.00 equiv) was added. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0 °C and acetic anhydride (2.01 g, 1.86 mL, 19.7 mmol, 3.00 equiv) was slowly added and stirred for 16 hours at 21 °C. For work up, the reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted three times with methylene chloride. The combined organic phase was dried over Na2SO4 and filtered.
