Selenium dioxide (243 mg, 2.19 mmol, 2.00 equiv) and 2-((3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,10-heptadecafluorodecyl)oxy)-3-((E)-2-(3-((E)-2-(3-methylquinoxalin-2-yl)vinyl)quinoxalin-2-yl)vinyl)quinoxaline (1.00 g, 1.09 mmol, 1.00 equiv) were dissolved in 1,4-dioxane (40.0 mL) and the solution was heated to 70 °C for 12 h. The reaction was allowed to reach 21 °C and methylene chloride (100 mL) and brine (100 mL) were then added. The aqueous layer was extracted with methylene chloride 3x (100 mL). The combined organic layers were then dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure.
