A solution of the ester (100 mg, 233 μmol, 1.00 equiv) and potassium hydroxide (200 mg, 3.57 mmol, 15.3 equiv) in methanol (15 mL) was refluxed for 1 h. After cooling down to room temperature the solution was acidified with 1 M HCl and extracted with Et2O (3 x 15 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried over Na2SO4 and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (Pentane/EtOAc 4:1 to 2:1) to yield the acid as a white solid (85.0 mg, 212 μmol, 91% yield).
