3-(Octyloxy)quinoxaline-2-carbaldehyde (50.0 mg, 175 μmol, 1.00 equiv), ((6,7-bis(4-(methoxycarbonyl)phenyl)-3-methylquinoxalin-2-yl)methyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide (161 mg, 210 μmol, 1.20 equiv) and sodium methoxide (47.2 mg, 873 μmol, 5.00 equiv) were put under argon. Then dry methanol (1.0 mL) and dry dichloromethane (2.0 mL) were added and the reaction was heated to 50 °C for 12 h. Methylene chloride was added (50 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine (50 mL). Then the aqueous layer was extracted 3x with methylene chloride (50 mL) each time. The organic layer were combined, dried over Na2SO4 and filtered. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure.
