A mixture of 4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzaldehyde (150 mg, 685 μmol, 1.00 equiv) and p-phenylenediamine (37.0 mg, 342 μmol, 0.500 equiv) in ethanol (6.85 mL) was refluxed for 2 h at 80 °C. After cooling, the precipate was collected by filtration and washed with cold ethanol. The solid was dried under reduced pressure to give N,N'-(1,4-phenylene)bis(1-(4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl)methanimine) (138 mg, 270 μmol, 79% yield) as a yellow solid.
