3-(Octyloxy)quinoxaline-2-carbaldehyde (50.0 mg, 175 μmol, 1.00 equiv), ((3-methyl-6,7-diphenylquinoxalin-2-yl)methyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide (137 mg, 210 μmol, 1.20 equiv) and sodium methoxide (47.2 mg, 873 μmol, 5.00 equiv) were put under argon. Then dry methanol (1.0 mL) and dry dichloromethane (2.0 mL) were added and the reaction was heated to 50 °C for 12 h. Methylene chloride (50 mL) and distilled water (50 mL) were then added and the aqueous layer was extracted 3x with methylene chloride (50 mL each time). The organic layers were combined and dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure.
