100 mL of CH2Cl2 were cooled down to −78oC by using a cooling mixture of dry ice and acetone. 1-Bromopyrrolidine-2,5-dione (8.72 g, 49.0 mmol, 1.00 equiv) and triphenylphosphane (12.8 g, 49.0 mmol, 0.999 equiv) were added into a round bottom flask under stirring. After 10 min, 2-[2-[2-[2-[2-(2-hydroxyethyloxy)ethoxy]ethoxy]ethoxy]ethoxy]ethanol (4.32 g, 15.3 mmol, 0.312 equiv) was added to the solution and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure.
