A solution of potassium;hydroxide in water (398 mg, 7.10 mL, 7.10 mmol, 1.00M, 2.01 equiv) was added to a solution of 2-(2-$l^{1}-oxidanyl-1,1,3,3-tetramethylisoindol-5-yl)ethynyl-trimethylsilane (1.01 g, 3.53 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in 50 mL of methanol. After stirring for 2.5 h at 21 °C the reaction mixture was diluted with 45 mL water and extracted with diethyl ether (50 mL) three times. The combined organic phases were washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the crude product was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, 4×20 cm, CH2Cl2) to give 0.735 g (3.43 mmol, 97%) of a yellow solid.
