To a solution of 5-[(~{E})-[di(propan-2-yl)amino]diazenyl]-1~{H}-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (504 mg, 2.29 mmol, 1.00 equiv) in 10 mL of anhydrous DMF, potassium carbonate (376 mg, 2.72 mmol, 1.19 equiv) was added at 0 °C and the resulting mixture was stirred for 45 minutes. 2-Iodopropane (463 mg, 272 μL, 2.72 mmol, 1.19 equiv) was added slowly over 15 minutes and the reaction mixture was heated to 90 °C ad stirred for 14 hours. Then the mixture was cooled, poured into ice cold water and the aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 x 20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and filtered.
