A mixture of 2-chloro-6-nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)aniline (500 mg, 2.08 mmol, 1.00 equiv) and tin(II) chloride (1.91 g, 10.1 mmol, 4.85 equiv) in ethanol (10 mL) was stirred at 75 °C for 1 h. The resulting solution was cooled to 21 °C and then poured onto crushed ice. Solid sodium bicarbonate was added slowly until pH = 8 and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were dried over Na2SO4 and filtered.
