2-Hydroxy-3-methyl-6-propan-2-ylbenzaldehyde (250 mg, 1.40 mmol, 1.00 equiv), dipotassium;carbonate (233 mg, 233 μL, 1.68 mmol, 1.20 equiv),1,3-dimethylimidazol-1-ium;dimethyl phosphate (382 mg, 1.68 mmol, 1.20 equiv) and (E)-3-phenylprop-2-enal (468 mg, 446 μL, 3.51 mmol, 2.50 equiv) were weighed into a microwave vial and reacted at 110 °C for 50 min. After cooling down to 21 °C, water (20 mL) and ethyl acetate (30 mL) were added. The aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate three times. Then the combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and coated onto celite.
