3-Hydroxy-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)isoindolin-1-one (78.8 mg, 250 μmol, 1.00 equiv) and N-[(E)-prop-1-enyl]benzamide (50.4 mg, 313 μmol, 1.25 equiv) were dissolved in DCM (2.5 mL) and cooled to 0 °C. p-Toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (4.76 mg, 25.0 μmol, 0.100 equiv) was added and the reaction stirred for 2 h. The reaction was quenched by addition of saturated aqueous NaHCO3-solution (10 mL). The organic layer was separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane (2x 5 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure.
