1,2-Bis(2-furyl)-2-hydroxy-ethanone (400 mg, 2.08 mmol, 1.00 equiv) and pyridiniumchlorochromate (673 mg, 3.12 mmol, 1.50 equiv) were suspended in dichloromethane (15.0 mL) and stirred for 16 h at room temperature. The resulting solution was stirred for 30 min., then quenched with saturated aqueous NH4CI (15 mL) and extracted with DCM (15 mL). The organic phases were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under vacuum. Recrystallization in DCM (10 mL) an hexane (10 mL) yielded dark-yellow needles of 1,2-bis(2-furyl)ethane-1,2-dione (140 mg, 736 μmol, 35% yield).
