4-Bromonaphthalen-2-ol (6.25 g, 28.0 mmol, 1.00 equiv) was dissolved in dichloromethane (150 mL) and chlorocopper(1+);2-(dimethylamino)ethyl-dimethyl-amine (32.5 mg, 140 μmol, 0.0050 equiv) was added. The reaction was stirred at 21 °C for 16 hour open to air. The reaction mixture was filtered through a short plug of silica eluting with dichloromethane. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. 4-Bromo-1-(4-bromo-2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)naphthalen-2-ol (5.99 g, 13.5 mmol, 96% yield) was obtained as a yellow crystalline solid.
