Methyl 3-(1-bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanylsulfonyl)propanoate (1.36 g, 6.22 mmol, 1.00 equiv) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (14 mL) and stirred at 21 °C. Potassium tert-butoxide in tetrahydrofuran (698 mg, 2.49 mL, 6.22 mmol, 2.50M, 1.00 equiv) was added to the solution and a pale yellow solid precipitated. After complete addition the reaction mixture was stirred at 21 °C for 20 min. The solvent and the formed acrylate were evaporated under reduced pressure. The Potassium bicyclo[1.1.1]pentylsulfinate was isolated as a yellow solid in 67% yield (715 mg, 4.20 mmol).
