(Sp,R)-[2.2]paracyclophan-4-yl ethan-1-ol (100 mg, 0.396 mmol, 1.00 equiv.) was dissolved in dry THF (5 mL) and cooled to 0 °C. Sodium hydride (60% in mineral oil, 23.8 mg, 0.594 mmol, 1.50 equiv.) was slowly added. The mixture was stirred for 30 min and iodomethane (84.4 mg, 23.0 μL, 0.594 mmol, 1.50 equiv.) was added. The mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 12 h. Ammonium chloride (sat. aq. solution, 10 mL) was added and the phases were separated. The aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane (3ｘ20 mL). The combined organic phases were dried over sodium sulfate and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure.
