Under a nitrogen stream,2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propane-1,3-diol (1.00 g, 7.35 mmol, 1.00 equiv) was dissolved in 25 ml of anhydrous dimethylformamide in a round-bottom flask and added with sodium hydride (1.32 g, 33.1 mmol, 4.50 equiv). The solution was stirred for 2 hours at 21 °C. In another flask, 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexafluorobenzene (6.15 g, 33.0 mmol, 4.50 equiv) was dissolved in 50 ml of anhydrous dimethylformamide, to which the reaction solution prepared previously was then slowly added dropwise at -10 °C. After completion of the addition, the mixture was stirred for 20 hours at 21 °C. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the product was purified by column chromatography (cyclohexane/ethyl acetate 10:1) to give 1,2,3,4,5-pentafluoro-6-[3-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenoxy)-2,2-bis[(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenoxy)methyl]propoxy]benzene (1.40 g, 1.75 mmol, 24% yield) as a colorless solid.
